2027: Prince Tijani Olusi Declares for Lagos Island Reps Seat, Highlights Track Record in Governance

News Story:
A former Chairman of Lagos Island Local Government, Tijani Adetoyese Olusi, has joined the race to represent Lagos Island Federal Constituency I in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Olusi, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is positioning his candidacy on years of experience in public administration, banking, and grassroots politics.

Born on October 29, 1969, into the Sanusi Olusi Royal family of Lagos, the aspirant began his educational journey at Kuramo Primary School and Government College, Victoria Island, before proceeding to Kwara State Polytechnic, where he obtained both National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Banking and Finance.

He started his professional career as an Administrative Trainee Officer with the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs during his National Youth Service, and later worked with Lagos State Building Investment Company (LBIC) and Inland Bank Nigeria Plc.

Olusi’s political journey, however, predates his rise to public office. He was actively involved in grassroots politics as far back as 1997 when he served as Chairman of the defunct Grassroots Democratic Movement (GDM) in Ward A3, Lagos Island. His political influence became evident when his party secured victories in the ward, defeating the then dominant United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP).

Contrary to public perception that his political rise was solely influenced by his father, Tajudeen Olusi, Chairman of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) in Lagos State, sources indicate that he built his political base independently, even contesting and winning elections against interests aligned with his father at the ward level.

Olusi later rose through the ranks to become Executive Chairman of Lagos Island Local Government, serving from 2017 to 2025. During his tenure, he oversaw several developmental initiatives and community-focused programmes aimed at improving service delivery and infrastructure within the local government.

Political observers note that his entry into the House of Representatives race adds to the growing list of aspirants seeking to represent the constituency, with campaigns expected to intensify in the coming months.

Olusi has pledged to provide what he described as “progressive and impactful representation” if elected, emphasising his commitment to improving the welfare of constituents and sustaining development across Lagos Island.

As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of 2027, his candidacy is expected to shape discussions within the APC and the constituency at large.
