The lawmaker representing Ikorodu Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Gbolahan Ogunleye, has dismissed claims linking him to a political alliance with House of Representatives aspirant, Abdulkareem Shittu.
In a statement issued by his media team and made available to the press on Sunday, the lawmaker described the reports as “baseless” and a deliberate attempt to sow discord within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikorodu.
The statement was in response to circulating reports allegedly attributed to recent defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including Shittu and Abdulazeez Awesu, suggesting a working relationship with Ogunleye ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Describing the claims as “fabrications,” Ogunleye maintained that no such political understanding exists or has ever been contemplated.
“These claims are entirely false and designed to mislead the public,” the statement read. “There is no pact, alliance, or form of collaboration between Hon. Ogunleye and Mr. Shittu regarding representation at the National Assembly.”
The lawmaker reiterated that his primary focus remains his legislative responsibilities and the continued development of Ikorodu under the APC platform.
Ogunleye also used the opportunity to reaffirm his support for the incumbent member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Babajimi Benson, commending his performance and impact across the constituency.
“Rep. Babajimi Benson has performed exceptionally well and continues to represent Ikorodu with distinction in Abuja. His contributions to infrastructure and community development are evident across the division,” he stated.
He added that any suggestion of opposition to Benson’s continued representation was “illogical” and misrepresents his position.
The statement further addressed interpretations of the lawmaker’s recent silence on political developments, noting that it should not be misconstrued.
“His silence should not be mistaken for consent, but rather a deliberate focus on governance over distractions created by political actors,” the statement clarified.
Ogunleye emphasized his commitment to party unity, noting that as a beneficiary of the APC’s political structure, he remains aligned with its leadership and principles.
He urged constituents to remain cautious of what he described as “manipulative narratives and sponsored misinformation,” stressing the importance of focusing on verifiable achievements rather than political speculation.
Reaffirming his stance, the lawmaker maintained that loyalty to the party and the people of Ikorodu remains paramount, adding that the progress recorded under the current leadership should not be undermined by what he termed “politically motivated falsehoods.”
The statement also highlighted the contributions of key political figures within the division, underscoring a collective commitment to development and continuity of governance.
Ogunleye concluded by warning against the spread of misinformation, stating that “the future of Ikorodu is too important to be derailed by false narratives driven by desperation.”
