The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee (JCC) Lagos State, has rejected what it described as an illegitimate representation of its leadership at the unveiling of the KOH Youth Ambassadors, declaring the event null and void.
In a press statement issued on April 26, 2026, the student body, under the leadership of Chairman Ridwan Ajayi, condemned the appearance of Mr. Odewunmi Quadri at the event, where he was allegedly presented as the Chairman of NANS Lagos. The association described the development as “misleading, unauthorized, and a gross misrepresentation” of the student movement’s recognized leadership structure.
NANS Lagos further alleged that the event was orchestrated by the Lagos State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Adigun Ibrahim Olalekan, accusing him of fostering division and political interference within the student movement. The statement claimed that his actions, both before and after recent electoral processes, reflect a pattern of manipulation and external political alignment rather than a commitment to student interests.
“The Lagos student movement is not a tool for personal political advancement,” the statement read, warning against attempts to impose what it termed “illegitimacy” on a constitutionally guided structure.
The association formally dissociated itself from the KOH Youth Ambassadors programme, urging stakeholders and the public to disregard any claims or representations made at the event as not reflective of NANS Lagos’ position.
While distancing itself from the programme, NANS Lagos extended cautious regards to the KOH initiative linked to Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, advising its team to be wary of external influences that could compromise its credibility.
The student body reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining unity, constitutional order, and credible engagement within the Lagos student community, emphasizing that no form of political interference or endorsement can override its recognized leadership.
The statement was jointly signed by Chairman Ridwan Ajayi, Secretary Kareem Mumini, and Public Relations Officer Aloba Ahmod.
