IKORODU, LAGOS — Preparations are underway for the inaugural iCare Community Cup, a grassroots football tournament powered by the iCare Foundation of Rep. Babajimi Benson, designed to promote unity, synergy and community spirit across Ikorodu Division.
The tournament, themed “Kick to Renewed Victory,” will bring together communities across the Division in a unique sporting initiative featuring teams drawn from the 30 State Wards in Ikorodu Division. Community Development Associations (CDAs), residents, elected representatives and political appointees will come together to form and support teams representing their respective wards.
Beyond the football pitch, the iCare Community Cup is envisioned as a platform for strengthening relationships among residents and community stakeholders. By bringing together people from different backgrounds and levels of community leadership, the tournament will encourage interaction, teamwork, healthy competition and a stronger sense of belonging.
According to the organisers, the participation of Community Development Associations and residents alongside elected and appointed public officials is a deliberate effort to bridge the gap between leadership and the grassroots, while creating an atmosphere where communities can connect beyond their everyday engagements.
The tournament will also provide an opportunity for young people and football enthusiasts across Ikorodu to showcase their talents, while promoting sportsmanship and peaceful community engagement. The iCare Community Cup is expected to transform football into a vehicle for community development, demonstrating how sport can foster unity, collaboration and collective action.
With the theme “Kick to Renewed Victory,” the tournament represents more than a competition for trophies. It is a call for communities across Ikorodu Division to come together, build stronger relationships and move forward with a renewed spirit of cooperation.
