Independence Day: Bolowotan Urges Ikorodu Residents to Sustain Progressive Governance

LAGOS — As Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ikorodu Constituency I, Hon. Toyin Gafaar Bolowotan, has called on residents of Ikorodu to remain committed to democratic participation and the sustenance of progressive governance.

Bolowotan, in an Independence Day message, described October 1 as a reminder of Nigeria’s journey from colonial rule to self-governance, stressing that the nation’s progress has been sustained by the sacrifice, resilience and participation of its citizens.

Drawing an analogy from the binary system of “1 and 0”, the APC candidate said democratic progress also depends on citizens making deliberate choices and participating actively in the electoral process.

According to him, “One vote. Zero apathy” should remain a guiding principle as Nigerians prepare for another electoral cycle. He said the development recorded across Nigeria, Lagos State and Ikorodu was the product of continuous contributions by citizens, governments and communities, adding that roads, schools, youth development initiatives and grassroots empowerment programmes were part of the broader process of building stronger communities.

Bolowotan urged residents of Ikorodu not to become complacent, but to remain engaged in governance and the democratic process. He noted that the 2027 elections would provide another opportunity for citizens to determine the direction of governance at the national and state levels.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed February 20, 2027 for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, while the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for March 6, 2027.

Bolowotan therefore encouraged eligible voters to remain informed and participate peacefully in the electoral process, emphasising that citizens have an important role in determining the future of their communities.

He also called for unity and collective responsibility among the people of Ikorodu, saying sustainable development requires citizens and leaders to work together. “Let us continue to build together, participate responsibly and keep the light of progress burning,” he said.

The APC candidate concluded his message by congratulating Nigerians on the 66th Independence Anniversary and wishing residents of Ikorodu, Lagos State and the country a productive new month.
