The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially unveiled Mrs. Damilola Sonayon-James as its Deputy Governorship Candidate for the 2027 Lagos State Governorship Election.
Sonayon-James will contest alongside the party’s governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, on the APC ticket as the party prepares for the forthcoming election.
Announcing the development, the Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, stated that her emergence followed a comprehensive consultation process and a careful assessment of several qualified individuals within the party.
According to Ojelabi, the selection process was guided by key considerations, including competence, leadership capacity, grassroots acceptability, loyalty to the party, and commitment to the progressive values that have continued to define the APC in Lagos State.
He noted that Sonayon-James has distinguished herself through years of dedicated service to the people, particularly in the areas of community development, grassroots mobilization, youth empowerment, and the advancement of women across the state.
The APC chairman further highlighted her experience in governance, stakeholder engagement, policy implementation, and sustainable development, describing her as a capable and dependable leader well-suited for the responsibilities of the Deputy Governor’s office.
Ojelabi expressed confidence in the Hamzat–Sonayon-James ticket, describing it as a formidable combination of experience, innovation, inclusiveness, and visionary leadership. He said the ticket possesses the capacity to sustain the achievements of previous administrations while driving a new phase of growth and development across Lagos State.
Widely regarded as a grassroots mobilizer and development advocate, Sonayon-James has earned recognition for her contributions to community empowerment initiatives, educational support programmes, youth development projects, women-focused interventions, and other social impact activities.
The party stated that her nomination reflects the APC’s commitment to inclusive governance, gender representation, youth participation, and the continued advancement of Lagos State.
The APC also called on party members, supporters, and residents of the state to unite behind the Hamzat–Sonayon-James ticket as preparations intensify for the 2027 governorship election.
