The ancient town of Kweme came alive on Saturday as traditional rulers, political leaders, community stakeholders, and residents gathered to celebrate the All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy Governorship Candidate, Princess Damilola Sonayon-James (DSJ), during a homecoming and homage visit to her ancestral kingdom.

The event, held at the palace of the Aholu of Kweme Kingdom, witnessed a remarkable display of cultural pride, unity, and royal honour as the community rolled out the drums to welcome one of its distinguished daughters.
Speaking at the reception, the Aholu of Kweme Kingdom, HRM Oba Sejiro Olalekan James, described Princess Sonayon-James as a worthy ambassador whose character, intellect, and dedication to public service have brought pride to the kingdom.
The monarch noted that despite her educational and professional accomplishments abroad, she remained deeply connected to her roots and committed to contributing meaningfully to societal development.

According to Oba James, the APC deputy governorship candidate had demonstrated an unwavering passion for humanitarian service long before her emergence as a governorship contender. He said her interventions through community development initiatives and non-governmental programmes had positively impacted countless lives, particularly among women, youths, and vulnerable groups.
“Princess Damilola Sonayon-James has consistently exemplified the values of humility, excellence, integrity, and compassion. Her commitment to uplifting people and supporting community development has endeared her to many across Lagos State and beyond,” the royal father said.
The monarch further remarked that her nomination as APC deputy governorship candidate came as no surprise to those familiar with her longstanding record of service and leadership. He also highlighted the rich political heritage of her family, noting that generations of the Sonayon-James family have contributed significantly to progressive politics and grassroots development in Lagos State.
In her response, Princess Sonayon-James expressed heartfelt appreciation to God, the people of Kweme Kingdom, traditional rulers, party leaders, women, youths, and residents for the warm reception accorded her.
She paid tribute to her late father and grandfather, whose enduring legacies of service, leadership, and commitment to community development continue to inspire her public service journey.
The APC deputy governorship candidate reaffirmed her commitment to advancing the progress of Lagos State and improving the welfare of its citizens. She assured the gathering that she would continue to represent Kweme Kingdom with dignity while working alongside the party’s governorship candidate to deliver inclusive governance, sustainable development, and greater prosperity for all residents.
“I remain committed to serving the people with dedication and integrity. This honour from my people is both humbling and inspiring, and I will continue to uphold the values and aspirations of Kweme Kingdom wherever I go,” she said.
The colourful event featured cultural performances, goodwill messages from party leaders and community stakeholders, special prayers for the success of the APC ticket, and royal blessings from traditional rulers.
The gathering concluded with prayers for wisdom, strength, and divine guidance for Princess Sonayon-James as she prepares for the responsibilities ahead, while community leaders expressed confidence in her capacity to contribute significantly to the continued growth and development of Lagos State.
