In the political evolution of Ikorodu, the initials “JB” have become synonymous with influence, performance, and sustained public service. Behind the widely referenced acronym is Babajimi Adegoke Benson — a lawyer, legislator, and policy reformer whose footprint spans governance, law, and development.
Born on March 30, 1972, Benson’s career trajectory reflects a blend of academic excellence and institutional exposure. A graduate of Lagos State University, he went on to obtain a Master’s degree in Comparative International Business Law from London Guildhall University, and later an MBA from Warwick Business School. His executive education includes leadership programmes at Harvard University and the Blavatnik School of Government, reinforcing his grounding in global governance and public leadership.
Before fully venturing into politics, Benson built a robust professional profile, serving as a Legal Officer at the United Nations, and later holding strategic roles within Nigeria’s financial and public sectors, including Ecobank Plc, Lead Bank Plc, and the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC). His appointment as a Non-Executive Director at the Lekki Free Trade Zone in 2007 further positioned him within Nigeria’s economic development architecture.
Elected in 2015 to represent Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives under the All Progressives Congress, JB has built a formidable legislative portfolio. With over sixty bills sponsored and six landmark legislations receiving presidential assent — including the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) Act and the Electricity (Amendment) Act, 2023 — Benson has distinguished himself as a policy-driven lawmaker. His contributions to constitutional amendments decentralising railway and electricity governance have also been widely acknowledged.
As Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, he has played a leading role in strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture, promoting indigenous military production, and advancing research-driven security solutions. His legislative interests also extend to healthcare, agriculture, climate policy, and judicial reform, reflecting a broad governance outlook.
On the home front, JB’s constituency interventions have been extensive and measurable. From the construction of over 72 roads and multiple healthcare facilities to ICT hubs, school buildings, and widespread electrification projects, his impact is visible across communities. Social interventions — including food support for over 55,000 households — further underscore a grassroots-oriented approach to representation.
Through the iCare Foundation, Benson continues to drive social development initiatives focused on youth empowerment, education, and welfare, including the iCare Food Bank and Back-to-School programmes. This reinforces his reputation beyond legislative chambers.
Honourable Babajimi Adegoke Benson is widely regarded for his commitment to legislative excellence, constituency development, and nation-building.
